Buoyant trade for Carlisle’s suckled calves
AN entry of 1,896 was forward at Carlisle for Borderway Mart's autumn show and sale of suckled calves, sponsored by Farmers Guardian.
Trade, though being slightly back on the year, was still buoyant with a packed ring of bidders battling to purchase excellent quality cattle.
The show was judged by Roger Brazier, Lemborough, Buckinghamshire, who awarded the champion prize to J. Lee and Sons, Whitfield, Hexham, for a black five-month-old Limousin cross heifer. By the registered Limousin bull, Greenfield Topper, and out of a Belgian Blue cross Limousin dam, it sold for £1,400 to Messrs Bonsall, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
