Burnbrae heifer sells for £2,300 at Shrewsbury

The top heifer at Shrewsbury Auction Centre’s weekly dairy sale on Tuesday (August 31) sold for £2,300, as demand continues to grow.

The heifer, Burnbrae Shottle Lady from Messrs D. J. D. and J. B. Taylor, was out of a VG88 Jock Besne dam whose best lactation was 13,500kg. The Lady family originates from the noted Montgomery herd.

Next best on the day was an unregistered but smart, new milched heifer from Mr D. B. Jones of Bangor on Dee, which sold at £2,020.

"The last month has seen a noticeable increase in trade with autumn buyers in attendance earlier than usual and still not enough cattle to satisfy this demand, which can only grow," said David Giles, Shrewsbury Auction Centre chairman and Halls’ dairy specialist.
