Call to Lakes farmers to protest
THE architect of the 2000 protests which forced the government to back down over fuel duties has called on Lakes farmers to join him on another protest march on London.
Andrew Spence, from County Durham, promised a new wave of demonstrations as pump prices across the UK broke through the £1-a- litre barrier.
He said that following foot and mouth disease people in agriculture and the countryside were being "hammered" and that chancellor Alistair Darling should cut fuel duty to help them.
