Canada-$10 billion BSE law case.

CANADA.

$10 BILLION LAW SUIT.

The cattle producers of Ontario, have filed a class action law suit against the Canada government in relation the mad cow disease outbreak in 2005.

The claim is based on the negligence of the government, in allowing animal by products containing brain material be fed to cattle.

This all sounds quite simple, except the farmers will have to prove the link between by-products and BSE, which has never been proved to date in any part of the world beyond reasonable doubt, at best this is only an assumption.

The findings will be of interest, indeed they may throw more light into the interaction of the food chain in relation to BSE.

Remarkably farmers seem to have no qualms, about by products being fed to pigs and poultry, while they may argue that pigs and poultry are carnivorous, this would be clutching at straws from a legal point of view
