Canada-Beef industry looking for government bailout.

Saskatchewan’s premier says Canada’s struggling cattle sector needs federal help, just like the automotive industry.

Premier Brad Wall says there’s been a lot of talk over the past few days about aid for the auto industry in reaction to the global recession. The latest announcement came Thursday with word that the federal and Ontario governments will provide US$2.42 billion in new financing to help Chrysler survive.

Wall says the cattle business is just as important to Canada.

The premier, who met briefly with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Regina on Thursday evening, says he thinks "there’s room for some support for the cattle sector."

Harper will be at a farm northeast of Regina on Friday to make an announcement with federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.
