Canada-New US labelling acceptable to Canadian meat trade.

UNITED STATES.

COOL LABELLING NOT SO BAD.

The new cool labeling has gone a small way towards appeasing the Canadian farmers, for in the small print there is an allowance for animals bred outside the US but finished on US farms.

A label in fact that can give the history of Canada and the United States role in producing the steer or pig.

However there are now complaints from within the US, that the COOL label does not go far enough.

Some politicians are claiming that the bill has been watered down, while north of the border farmers believe it is still loaded against Canada, albeit not quite as bad as initial proposals.

The new labeling is to take effect from March 16, by which time one can safely assume there will be many changes already taken place in Washington and the halls of power.
