Cattle prices remain low
Cattle prices still remain on the floor in Argentina this week, despite this, there were 24,000 cattle on offer in Mercado de Liniers in Monday and Tuesday.
The retail market is firm and keeping the trade alive, there will be little movement in the export market until February.
The prices of hides is still on the floor, with no prospects of any pick up in prices.
Normally the hide value goes a long way towards paying all the expenses on cattle being slaughtered, known as the fifth quarter, this is not the case today with hides at US$5 apiece.
The very best steers could be bought at 85c/kg USD, and yearlings for the same money.
Good Angus type butchers cows for 50c/kg USD, and manufacturing cows as low as 25c/kg USD.
