Chile-Beef Deal with USA.
CHILE-UNITED STATES BEEF DEAL.
The U.S. Trade Representative on Friday announced an
agreement that makes way for the U.S. to resume shipments of American beef to
Chile , a positive move for American ranchers and the U.S. beef industry.
American beef shipments to Chile were halted in September as officials sought
clarification of a provision of the U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement. At issue
was the certification of beef grade labeling.
USTR and Chilean officials, however, have struck a deal that means shipments
of American beef can resume immediately.
"During these difficult economic times, it is crucial that we unlock every
opportunity for robust trade," U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said in a
statement. "This agreement will allow our country to resume a healthy export
relationship that has nearly doubled in the past year."
