MEAMINE DAIRY SCANDAL TWO MEN IN COURT.

Two of the six dairy farm executives that were arrested in the melamine scandal in China with formula milk, appeared in court on Friday, while the charges against them were read out.

The use of melamine in formula milk was to raise the protein levels for marketing purposes. Six babies died when the melamine crystallized and blocked the babies kidneys.

55,000 babies were hospitalized and made full recoveries, however the Prime Minister of China was forced to make a unprecedented public apology. This was a cause of severe embarrassment to the government of China and of course a tragedy for the parents.

Sun Lu Foods, the largest dairy in China, paid out US$160 million in damages to victims and went into bankruptcy.


The defendants in this most serious case, could face the death penalty or very lengthy terms in prison if found guilty.
