Lancashire milk supplier Clifton Dairies has been acquired by the Tom Barron Group, the expanding family farming business with interests from milk production to quail and day-old chicks.
The group has bought the assets of Clifton Dairies from Clifton Food Service, part ofthe R Group.
Clifton Dairies, based at Woodplumpton, near Preston, is a major provider of milk and dairy products to retail and wholesale outlets, and hospitals, in the Fylde area of Lancashire. Tom Barron, with its own dairy herds and milk processing plant, has been a supplier to Clifton Dairies for many years.
“The existing staff of Clifton Dairies are joining us in this new venture to help make the transition as smooth and seamless as possible,” says Mike Haines, commercial director of Tom Barron.
“We see a strong future for regional, family based farming businesses and milk in particular. Consequently we are investing heavily in the future, with both the purchase of the Clifton Dairies operation and the installation of new dairy equipment and technology. This will ensure we are best able to meet the future needs of our customers.”
Clifton Dairies has built a reputation for freshness and quality, priding itself on delivering milk to customers only 24 hours after leaving the farm and checking the quality of every batch of milk processed. Indeed the company lists many well known food service companies and the National Health Service among its customers.
