Cogent Breeding adds colour to dairy herds

Milk Producers using dairy breeds other than Holstein can now take advantage of a strong line-up of breed-leading alternatives from Cogent Breeding.

No.1 Shorthorn bull, Drisgol Watzon covers all areas dominating the rankings for PLI (£203), type (+2.3), mammary (+1.8), lifespan (+0.7), legs (+1.7) and fat (+26.8kgs). With -17 SCC, +205kgs milk and phenomenal udders offering extremely strong central ligaments (+3.7), very high rear udders (+1.7) and snugly attached fore udders (+2.1).

Ardmore Crown Napier is the No.1 Ayrshire udder bull. Napier offers excellent management traits and functional type with outstanding mammary systems. As a cell count improver (-17) transmitting +253kgs milk, +0.2 lifespan, 0.03% fat with extremely tight central ligaments (+2.7); Napier is a bull to suit all.

British Friesian, Bradash Tournament, is the No.2 in the breed for PLI with a massive £172. The Blackisle Glen Albyn son produces robust, profitable animals and offers +658kgs milk, 0.03% fat, -9 SCC, +0.2 lifespan and +1.5 calving ease.

For farmers looking for more robust animals, Bosnes is a high production Norwegian Red with excellent fertility, cell count (-6 SCC), PLI (£150), milk (+628kgs) and protein (0.04%). Scandinavian Red, Skyhigh Hartland is another bull to give hybrid vigour offering production, conformation, high fertility and calving ease.
