Contracts favoured for farm business

Contracts are the way to go for long term stability in farming, says Hawke’s Bay farmer Hugh Ritchie.

He says about 70% of his farm business is contracted forward and barley is about the only crop he has no contracts for yet.

That’s because he has a good long-term relationship with a grain marketer to whom he commits volume.
