County harvests suffer this year due to summer drought

As harvest festivals are being held this fall across Prince George's, south county farmers are finding that they have little to harvest or celebrate. The summer drought many feared would devastate their crops has taken its toll.

Jimmy Edelen, an Aquasco farmer, said he is not harvesting his fields of corn and soybeans this year but clearing the dead crops to make room for a winter wheat crop. Out of 600 acres he's already scrapped 400 and is quickly planting wheat as soon as he gets the fields clear.
