Newark & Nottinghamshire Agricultural Society's Show Manager, Mrs Jilly Waddington, is leaving after 18 years of service. Jilly, who is well known on the county show circuit and amongst the agricultural community of Nottinghamshire and its neighbouring counties, has helped to lead the society's show to a prominent position, being renowned for livestock exhibits and main ring entertainment.

This year's new-look Food Hall proved very popular with visitors, being resited within the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall, which provided additional space for the well-attended Cookery Theatre demonstrations.

Mrs Waddington is a well respected trade stand judge, having performed duties at Lincoln, Surrey and Suffolk shows, as well as attending many other county shows across the country in her quest to ensure Newark and Nottinghamshire retains its position as one of the summer's leading outdoor events.

Chief executive Adrian Johnston said: "We are very sorry to be losing Mrs Waddington as she has been a highly valued member of staff. I have worked with her for over 12 years, since my appointment, and her contribution will be much missed."

At a reception to present Mrs Waddington with a trophy commemorating her time with the society, Chairman Tony Watson echoed Adrian's sentiments: "Jilly has worked very hard over the years and we will all miss her ability to manage the county show and other events staged at the venue. Adrian and I, along with everyone else involved at the society, wish her well in the future."

The society will be seeking an experienced show manager and events co-ordinator to fill the vacancy created by Mrs Waddington's resignation. Adrian Johnston commented: "We seek someone who is capable of taking the society forward to the next decade and beyond.

"The Newark and Nottinghamshire County Show is highly respected for its livestock classes, including the National Alpaca Show which, in 2007, was the largest held in Europe. We aim to build on this reputation and make our show bigger and better than ever.

"The successful candidate will also be the impetus behind the new series of specialist environmental events to be held here at Newark Showground."
