Sausage makers Debbie and Andrew Keeble (from Debbie and Andrew's Sausages) organised a welly wanging contest yesterday at the Royal Show in Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire for Farm Crisis network. One of the top scorers of the afternoon was the manager of Sainsbury's Courthouse Green in Coventry, Matt Stansfield, who's longest throw was only 5 feet short of the world record.
Debbie and Andrew Keeble are organising Welly Wanging across the country in the hope of finding a Welly Wanging champion to send to the World Championships in Italy. It is all part of a campaign to raise awareness for farmers who are hit by problems in the pig industry.
"Matt was extremely impressive" says Andrew Keeble. "A whole team from Sainsburys came but he certainly had the wanging technique. They were all fantastic sports as well which was great, as we are trying to raise as much awareness for the Farm Crisis Network. We spend our lives in wellies and it's also on our packaging so we thought it was appropriate to organise the Welly Wanging. Who knows, perhaps Matt could be the next World Champion wanger!"
