Dairy UK welcomes new First Milk creamery

Dairy UK Scotland Director Kirk Hunter today warmly welcomed the news that First Milk is to build a new creamery at Campbeltown on Kintyre.

He said: "I am delighted that First Milk is building a state of the art creamery to replace its existing plant at Campbeltown. The move will help to grow the value of the cheese brands produced at the site, and secure the market for 42 local dairy farmers.

"Dairy UK has for some time been saying that the long-term prospects for the dairy sector are bright. This investment, which has been generously supported by the Scottish government, is a vote of confidence in the dairy industry in Scotland and the UK as a whole.

"This is another step along the way to building a vigorous, competitive and world leading dairy sector. Our recent White Paper shows that UK dairy farmers and processors are some of the best placed to profit from dairy in the long term. And it’s great to see the Scottish government leading the way by putting its support behind the sector."
