Day two at the NFU Conference 2016

Day Two at the NFU Conference sees an 8am start for the Early Bird Panels and a choice of three topics.

Winning and progressing in tenant farming’ will look at how to set up a specific farm business tenancy between landlord and tenant so that the terms meet the needs of both parties.

Meanwhile, with blame linked to re-wilding, ‘sheep wrecking’ and flooding all laid at the door of hill farmers in recent times, another early bird asks ‘Will policymakers ever understand the uplands?’.

NFU Welsh members may prefer ‘Mae’n Amser Cefnogi Ffermwyr Cymru: It’s time to back Welsh Farming’, a panel debate including the Welsh government’s Andrew Slade, Director of Agriculture, Food and Marine, chief veterinary officer Christiane Glossop and Matthew Quinn, Director of Environment and Sustainable Development.

Then it’s onto the Workshops (9.30am – 11am) where line-ups of expert speakers will consider the following:

• The changing labour landscape

• Working together; where next for farming businesses?

• The future of renewables - generating our own clean power, subsidy-free

• Where will the environment take us in the future?

• How future-proof is our country’s animal health?

• Succession Planning – Playing the generation game

The EU Referendum Session, chaired by Acting NFU DG Martin Haworth, will hear from former MEP for Scotland and member of the Britain Stronger In Europe group, George Lyon, and Daniel Hannan, a Conservative MEP for South East England and Secretary-General of the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists.

A packed conference programme is rounded off with the closing address from NFU President Meurig Raymond (1pm). The NFU AGM and the election of our officeholder team for 2016-18 follows from 2.30pm (not webstreamed).
