De Sangosse sponsors Tillage event

Slug pellet manufacturer De Sangosse is delighted to announce that it is sponsoring this year's Tillage event, the UK's top cultivation and farm soil care trade show.

In recent months industry leaders and politicians have lined up to stress the importance of soil as a crucial natural resource to be conserved and improved.

"Soil is one of the essentials of life. Farmers in particular have an important role to play in protecting soils," said DEFRA minister Lord Whitty at the launch of the UK's first soil action plan this May.

At the same time the Environment Agency published its own soil consultation. "Healthy soils are a vital component of a sustainable environment" said the agency's chief executive Barbara Young. "For too long now we have been working, building, consuming and farming without understanding what impact our actions are having on our soils."

With such soil issues in mind, as well as the demands of cross-compliance, the technical demonstrations and seminar programme of Tillage are extremely timely. The Metarex seminar programme, running each morning and afternoon, will include presentations on marrying agronomic and economic gain with environment care. Rothamsted Research will also be discussing new data on climate and slug population forecasting.

Tillage 2004 is on September 14th at Austrey, Leicestershire, and on October 5th at Earlston, Berwickshire.
