Deadly virus found at lake
AN OUTBREAK of a deadly fish virus - the angling world's equivalent of foot and mouth disease - has forced the closure of a popular lake.
Koi Herpesvirus Disease (KHV), has been discovered at three-acre Burghfield Match Lake - used by the area's top anglers - and other fisheries across the Reading area are on high alert.
The disease, which mainly affects carp, is capable of wiping out a lake's entire fish stock, and its presence at Burghfield was confirmed by the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) following sampling and analysis.
