Displays of traditional farming to wow the crowds

Thousands of families are expected to flock to Marden this weekend for the British National Ploughing Championship, Yourmaidstone reports.

More than 15,000 people are expected to attend the two-day championship and country festival in the village near Maidstone.

They will see top ploughmen from throughout Britain compete for the national title and the chance to represent their country in the 2009 World Ploughing Contest in Slovenia.

Only one plough-woman is taking part this year, 17-year-old Debbie Watson from Hallington, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
