Dow AgroSciences at Grassland and Muck 2008
The Dow AgroSciences stand at Grassland and Muck 2008 will focus on the company's new Profit from Grass initiative. With a variety of plots, and experts on-hand, Dow will display a comprehensive bank of information, all aimed at ensuring that farmers maximise their grassland's potential, and get the most successful, cost-effective results from applying the right products at the right times.
Colin Bowers of Dow AgroSciences explains the basis of the Profit from Grass initiative: "Getting the best grass crop is more important than ever for livestock farmers and at Grassland we will be demonstrating just how much impact weeds can have on yield and overall production."
"Our research has shown that in a silage ley, five per cent docks can mean a loss of three tonnes of fresh weight per hectare. Converted to energy this is approximately 2478 MJ, and put into milk production terms is 468 litres of milk. When you multiply that by the price of milk per litre you get a true idea of the losses incurred if grassland weeds are not treated effectively."
In addition to offering leading advice, Dow will be launching Banish, a new spot-treatment weed control, suitable for non-professional users. Banish is applied using a knapsack and can be used to treat ragwort, docks, thistles, dandelions and buttercups making it ideal for smallholders and horse owners.
On top of all of the above visitors will be able to win a year's use of a New Holland compact tractor by taking part in Dow's on-stand competition.
