Early Christmas Cheer For Prawn Fishermen
Trawlermen fishing for prawns
off the coast of Wales last week were celebrating a bigger than expected catch with the contents of their haul - bottles of a top Irish liqueur and the glasses to drink it with.
The three trawlers netted dozens of gift packs of Carolans, which is the world's second best selling cream liqueur.
The fishermen, from Ireland, were fishing in an area known as 'The Smalls,' located just off the Pembrokeshire coast when they were astonished to bring up
the gift packs containing not just bottles but also free glasses.
The bottles, their contents and the glasses were all retrieved in good condition but the labels been washed away. The fishermen had to do a bit of detective work to identify their haul and sought the help of a local publican
who confirmed that the mystery bottles were Carolans. C&C International, which makes the liqueur, later confirmed that the bottles had been amongst 8,000 lost when a 40 ft container was lost in a fierce storm, whilst en route from Ireland
to Spain.
Carolans Irish Cream Liqueur is particularly popular in Spain where it is drunk neat with ice or in cocktails, and C&C International has since shipped a second consignment to avoid disappointing its Spanish customers this Christmas. The
trawlers, meanwhile, have been back at sea, fishing the same area.
