Educational link to food chain

College and university lecturers throughout the UK have the opportunity to nominate one of their students for Cattle Student of the Year.

The award encourages the next generation of agricultural professionals to submit a case study, essay, course work or project relating to any aspect of the cattle industry.

“The long term future of the UK livestock industry is in the hands of the current generation of students,” says Bert Burns, corporate affairs, Merial Animal Health. “Their dedication, enthusiasm and knowledge will be a key factor in re-establishing british livestock as a premier global brand.”

The Royal Agricultural Society of England award, which is sponsored by Merial Animal Health and the British Simmental Cattle Society, is now in its third year. The overall winner will take away a Simmental trophy, and will receive their prize that includes a £500 cheque at this year’s Royal Show.

Nominations for work that’s worthy of a wider audience must be received by May 31 2004. Finalists will be invited to give a presentation at the Royal Show on Sunday July 4 2004, with the winner announced on the day.
