Enterprising farmers walk their way to success

An enterprising farmer turned award winning brewer has collaborated with the Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail to produce a bottled beer to celebrate the Silver Anniversary of the walk.

Inspired by the 79 mile trail from the Humber Estuary to Filey Brigg, Wolds Way cask beer has offered refreshment to many a walker at several of the pubs that line the route through the spectacular Yorkshire Wolds.

Now, due to popular demand, Wold Top Brewery's Wolds Way cask beer is available in bottles.

Brewed to traditional recipes using home grown Maris Otter malt, Goldings and Cascade hops and the farm's own pure, chalk-filtered water, Wolds Way is an uncomplicated and refreshing Pale Ale with an ABV of 3.6%.

Gill Mellor, who owns the brewery with husband, Tom, explains, "The Yorkshire Wolds Way passes within a quarter of a mile of the farm where the Brewery is sited. We name all of our real ales after significant local places and events and so it was logical to celebrate this important anniversary with an eponymous beer. We are also producing limited edition packs, beer mats and pump clips. We hope that people will enjoy Wolds Way en route and may even take a commemorative pack home."

Wolds Way bottled beer will join the rest of the Wold Top Brewery range (Wold Top, Falling Stone, Wold Gold and Falling Stone) and will be available through the website www.woldtopbrewery.co.uk, farmers markets, farm shops, delis, hotels, pubs and off licences throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

The Yorkshire Wolds Way was the tenth National Trail to be launched by the Countryside Commission and is enjoyed in full and in part by over 67,000 walkers every year. The Trail Officer's favourite part is "Fridaythorpe to Thixendale and Wharram Percy for the sense of freedom and big skies".
