Environment issues farm walk

NFU Cymru members are invited to attend a Farm Walk at Lower Porthamel Farm, Talgarth, Brecon, next month to discuss environmental issues which may arise at cross compliance inspections.

Environment Agency Wales will be on hand to discuss the Wye Catchment Initiative, cross compliance measures and the appropriate disposal of agricultural waste.

The Farm Walk will commence at 5.30pm on 10 September 2009 by the kind permission of Joel Durrell. There will be a free buffet at the event where staff from Environment Agency Wales and NFU Cymru will be on hand to answer any queries you may have.

Estyn James, NFU Cymru County Chairman for Brecon and Radnor said, "We are most grateful to Joel Durrell for agreeing to host the farm walk. An Environment Agency Wales inspection is incorporated into a Welsh Assembly Government cross compliance inspection so this is an ideal opportunity to see first hand how to avoid any breaches of cross compliance in this area, which can potentially lead to financial penalties. I hope many local farmers will attend this event to discuss any environmental issues concerning them."
