A working dairy farm in North Essex has secured its future by voluntarily registering its land with Land Registry.
Boydells Dairy Farm, in Wethersfield near Braintree has been in the same family for generations and is now secure for generations to come after owner Richard Campbell took advantage of Land Registry's 25 per cent discount on voluntary registrations.
"It was an offer I didn't want to refuse, and it made sense to do it sooner rather than later," said Mr Campbell. Boydells is an open farm comprising 42 hectares and 300 milking sheep.
"The whole process of registration was handled extremely professionally and efficiently and it all went through in a matter of weeks. The officials from Land Registry came to us to sift through and discuss all the various bits of paperwork, took the relevant documents away and sorted it all out. It was all very friendly and quick. I'd recommend farmers and landowners take advantage of it while they can!"
Brian Mahan of the, Essex Register Development Team [h1]at Land Registry, added:
"It was a pleasure to work with everyone at Boydells to help safeguard its heritage.
"Almost half the land in Essex remains unregistered. We know that landowners live busy lives but we hope they will take a little time to think about securing their future now."
State-backed registration gives landowners greater security of title, providing them with better protection against claims of adverse possession. Landowners also know the administration of their land holding is in good order with key information in one place and easy to access.
