EU plea to halt German milk mail
German dairy farmers angry over low prices have sent at least 1,900 milk parcels to the European Commission.
EU Agriculture Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel has urged them to stop, appealing in the blog on her website.
"I can assure you that we take your concerns seriously," she said. They oppose a 2% increase in milk quotas.
"If you want to continue sending milk, then I can imagine it would be better to give it to a good cause in your local area," Ms Fischer Boel said.
She appealed to the milk producers to work with the Commission to find a viable compromise.
A statement from her office said the first milk parcels had arrived on 26 June and by late last Thursday the total had reached about 1,900, nearly all of them from Germany. A few came from Luxembourg on Friday.
