EU reclaims unduly spent farm money
The European Commission decided on Wednesday to reclaim a total of 410.3 million euros (644 million U.S. dollars) of European Union (EU) farm money unduly spent by member states.
The EU's executive arm said the money would return to the EU budget because of inadequate control procedures or non-compliance with EU rules on agricultural expenditure.
"We are working extremely hard to maintain the best possible control over farm spending," said Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Mariann Fischer Boel.
