Falkland Islands-New Constitution for sheep farmers.

FALKLAND ISLES.

NEW CONSTITUTION JANUARY 1 2009.

January 1 was an important day for the history of the Falkland Isles, as the new constitution takes effect, providing enhanced local democracy and internal self government for the Islanders.

The Falklands have developed considerably, both economically and socially since the previous constitution came into operation in 1985, the new constitution reflects this.

The Falkland have developed the sheep and lamb industries, with a new export abattoir and regular shipments of lamb going to the United Kingdom. Salted skins are also shipped to the UK along with sausage casings.

There is a small cattle business, however the land is far more suitable for sheep farming.

There has been oil and gas exploration in the region, since the large fields were found of the coast of Argentina and Brazil.
