Farmer fined £350 for polluting waterway

A Derrygonnelly farmer has been fined £350 for polluting a waterway near his home.

The Resident Magistrate at Fermanagh Magistrates Court, Liam McNally, heard how on Friday, 24th June, Ernest Whittaker from Leighan, Derrygonnelly, discharged a polluting matter so that it entered an unnamed tributary of the Sillees River. He denied the charge.

The Court was given evidence from sampler John McGurran, who said that on the day in question he arrived at approximately 11.30am to see a waterway grossly polluted and he traced it back to the adjacent farmhouse belonging to Whittaker.
