Farmers feel left off election radar

Farmers and growers are worried that the importance of agriculture to the economy is absent from the election campaign. Federated Farmers will launch its own manifesto on Tuesday to stress that the country’s future is the future of farming, reports Laura Basham.

Federated Farmers president Don Nicolson does not feel like we are in an election.

From where he stands, he sees the media devoting half its coverage to the monetary meltdown.

"I don’t feel like we are in an election at all, and I’m Federated Farmers’ president. That’s a little odd," he says.
