Farmers set to discuss CAP reforms
CAP reform proposals will be the subject of discussion at the next meeting of Ceredigion NFU Cymru members set to take place on Tuesday, 6 March 2012.
During the meeting, to be held at Aberaeron Rugby Club, Aberaeron, at 7.30pm, details will be provided on the recently published CAP Reform proposals and some of the main issues that could impact most on Welsh farmers.’ Local members will have the opportunity to feed in their views to help inform the Union’s response to the Welsh Government’s current CAP Reform post 2013 consultation. NFU Cymru will also outline how it will represent members’ interests to the Governments in Cardiff, Westminster and Brussels throughout the CAP Reform negotiations.
John Davies, the newly elected Chairman for NFU Cymru in Ceredigion said, ’This meeting is open to all members and I do hope we will get a good turnout. Please also encourage your friends and neighbours to come along.’
Mid-Gwynedd farmers are set to start the year tackling the many major European and Welsh Government issues facing them, including Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform.
NFU Cymru members’ opinions regarding Welsh Government’s consultation on CAP reform will be vital for the way they and all Welsh farmers will be conducting their business for the foreseeable future. The Government has made it clear that the consultation is not a one-off exercise but part of an on-going process to stimulate and sustain dialogue for the coming few months.
Mid-Gwynedd County Branch Chairman William Hughes said, ’We have an opportunity to press home our message as to how CAP should proceed because the European draft implementations are not likely to be published for a few months yet. Matters such as greening and other outstanding CAP issues must be tackled and resolved to our benefit. We also need to examine the latest developments on the Single Farm Payment and Glastir agri-environment scheme. So I urge all members to attend.’
