Farmers to exchange views with kent police chief

Policing for rural areas is to be the subject of a meeting between the Kent police chief and the National Farmers’ Union next week.

Kent chief constable Michael Fuller will hold a liaison meeting on July 6 with NFU South East Regional Director Shaun Leavey and Kent NFU chairman Anthony Curwen.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at Quex Park, Birchington, in Kent where Mr Curwen is estate manager.

Items on the agenda include rural crime, particularly illegal encampments by travellers, fly-tipping and illegal hare coursing. The private business of the meeting will take place between 15.00 and 15.45hrs. Michael Fuller will then be taken on a tour of the estate until 16.30hrs.

Kent NFU chairman Anthony Curwen said: “The NFU welcomes any opportunity for dialogue with police as they have a tough job and we want to help make it easier. We intend to brief NFU members after the meeting on what police are doing to tackle crime in the countryside and the most effective way that farmers can liaise with police when problems arise on their properties.”
