Farmers and growers across the region are being urged to join the debate on the EU referendum at a series of NFU-organised events.

They will be briefed on the findings from new research that examines the potential implications for British agriculture of remaining in or leaving the EU and have the chance to air their views.

The issues raised by the 23 June referendum are vital for all farmers given the significant impact of Brussels legislation, the UK's significant trading relationship with the EU and the support available through the Common Agricultural Policy.

NFU Regional Director Richard Hezlet said: "The referendum is a once-in-a-generation event and, whichever way the result goes, it will have crucial implications for British agriculture.

"At the moment the debate is still clouded by uncertainty, not just about what Britain’s agricultural policies could look like if we leave the EU, but also over future developments within Europe should Britain continue as a member state.

"We are determined to present farmers with as much factual information as possible to help them make up their minds and I would urge as many members as possible to attend these meetings.”

The NFU commissioned a leading Dutch agricultural university to model the potential impact of remaining in or leaving the EU.

NFU Director of Policy Dr Andrew Clark, Dr Andrea Graham, NFU’s Head of Policy Services and Fay Jones, Parliamentary and Communications Adviser from the Brussels office, BAB, will present the findings at a series of four meetings across the region beginning on Thursday 7 April:

7 April - 7.30pm - East of England Showground, Peterborough PE2 6XE
