Farmers urged to register land at Suffolk show

Farmers and landowners will be able to find out how to secure the future of their land ownership at the Suffolk Agricultural Show on 27 and 28 May, when Land Registry will be visiting the showground as part of a tour of agricultural shows in England and Wales.

Experts from the regional Register Development Team will be setting up a trailer at Pitch 219 and will be on hand to answer queries from show visitors and explain how the process of voluntary registration works. Leaflets and application forms will be available for people to take away with them.

Land Registry - the government department responsible for registering land ownership in England and Wales - is currently encouraging landowners to register their land voluntarily.

Register Development Manager for Suffolk, Martyn Davies, said:

"Just 64 per cent of the land in Suffolk is registered - one of the lowest levels in England and Wales.

"Registration is relatively inexpensive and straightforward to carry out. It establishes proof of ownership and makes buying and selling land easier and less costly with key information easy to access and in one place.

"What’s more if you act now to register your land voluntarily, you can benefit from a 25 per cent discount on the registration fee."
