Farming investment opportunity

THE public, alongside pension funds, trusts etc, can now invest directly in farming with the creation of a new enterprise, Braemar UK Agricultural Land.

It will be managed by rural surveyors and property valuers Humberts who say the minimum investment is £10,000.

Andrew Pearce, director of Humberts Country Department, said: "Although other investment markets were badly shaken this autumn due to global economic uncertainties and the collapse of the sub-prime mortgage market, the UK land market is definitely holding firm under foot.

Braemar will buy farms and farm the land using Humberts to manage the day-to-day farming activities through contractors. The Company will distribute up to 75 per cent of profit as a dividend annually. After five years, the farms and land will be sold and the proceeds will be distributed amongst investors, subject to favourable market conditions and shareholder agreement.
