Fife Constabulary seek help in finding stolen tractor

Fife Constabulary Stolen Vehicle Squad are seeking the help of the public in tracing a stolen tractor worth £18000.

The Tractor, a Ford New Holland 7740 model with a Registration Number N839DSR, blue in colour with a black 'Quicke' front loader and rear 'Amazone' chemical Boom Sprayer, green and yellow in colour, attached, was stolen between 5pm on Friday (30/04/04) and 7am on Saturday (01/05/04) from New Droverhall Farm Inverkeithing Road, Crossgates. The thieves

broke into a shed in order to steal the tractor.

A Police spokesman said, " There has been a recent trend of tractor thefts in the western area of Fife and I would take this opportunity to warn the Farming Community of Fife to take precautions with their agricultural machinery, which there is obviously a growing 'black' market for. They should ensure that they secure or immobilise any vehicles or tools when not in use, and be able to identify their property, by marking tools an equipment with their postcode and first two letters of their farm. Farm buildings that keep the weather out, won't deter a thief! Valuable equipment should be stored in a sound, locked building. Lights outside will often scare intruders away."

He added, "We would appeal both to the media and the public to assist the Stolen Vehicle Squad, by supplying any pieces of information they may be aware of, in relation to stolen agricultural vehicles. When a large item of plant was stolen and recovered in Ireland recently, a large amount of information was forthcoming from the public which greatly assisted the Squad with their investigations. The Squad are continuing investigations into all of these thefts and any information would be greatly appreciated."
