First Milk said it will be welcome news for its members following a late spring

British farmer-owned dairy co-op First Milk has announced that it will be holding milk price for May 2018.

This means that the liquid standard litre price remains at 26.0ppl, or 26.88ppl on a manufacturing standard litre.

Commenting on the announcement, Jim Baird, vice chairman and farmer director, said: “The fact that we are able to hold our milk prices for May will be welcome news for our members following such a late spring.

“We will continue to drive business performance to deliver more stable and competitive returns to our members.”

The UK’s largest dairy co-operative Arla is also holding its milk price for May, at 27.43 pence per litre.

The news follows First Milk's announcement earlier this month that it will be offering its creameries on Arran and in Campbeltow for sale.
