Fiscal stimulus begins at home says CLA North

As the country waits for news of expected incentives in the Chancellor’s pre-Budget report, the CLA in the North says that we can all do our own bit to help kick start our local economies.

Douglas Chalmers, Director CLA North said: "The world’s economy may currently be fragile with no one country or organisation able to restore confidence, but I would argue that we can all make real differences in our own local communities.

"At about this time every year we will remind people of the many advantages of doing their Christmas shopping locally – convenience, choice, value for money and simply being a pleasurable experience rather than a ruck and maul in a crowded city or shopping centre.

"Supporting our local businesses is even more important this year. A pound spent locally will go round a number of different businesses, helping them not only in the short term, but also buffering them for later. Local spending protects local businesses, local jobs and local services.

"Media commentators often refer to kick-starting the economy. We can’t fix the world’s, but we can all make a real difference to our local one."
