Forget meat we ll be farming water in 10 years time say the National Trust

Hill farming in Wales is set for a radical shake-up in the next decade according to the National Trust.

Iwan Huws – the charity’s director for Wales – believes landowners will one day be asked to "farm" not animals but water, wildlife, carbon and landscapes.

Mr Huws peered a decade into the future as the Trust celebrated the 10th anniversary of its acquisition of the Hafod y Llan estate on Snowdon.

The 4,000-acres hill farm was bought by the Trust in 1998 after more than £5m was raised through a Daily Post-backed appeal, including a £1m personal donation from Sir Anthony Hopkins.
