Formulated pre-lambing minerals
Natural vitamin E, and the newly approved organic selenium source Sel-Plex, are included in Trouw Nutrition's re-formulated pre-lambing sheep mineral pack to support ewe and lamb immune systems and improve lamb viability.
The specialist Pre Lamb formulation, which is part of Trouw Nutrition's Maxcare Farm Minerals range, also includes balanced levels of phosphorus and magnesium to meet the demands of growing lambs and iron to reduce the risks of anaemia during pregnancy.
"Maxcare Pre Lamb is designed to meet the requirements of both the ewe and her lambs during pregnancy," explains Trouw Nutrition's farm mineral product manager Richard Slack. "Natural vitamin E has around double the availability of alternative synthetic sources and is therefore an important inclusion. Similarly, the organic selenium yeast source Sel-Plex – approved by the EU in December 2006 – is included to boost the availability of this essential trace element for the ewe, and also for the lamb through increased milk selenium status.
"High levels of zinc are included as Zinprex-3, a three-way zinc source that contributes this important trace element in rumen soluble, rumen by-pass and organic forms. This additional key feature of Maxcare Pre Lamb provides the necessary support for tissue growth and also helps to improve foot condition in the ewe."
Re-formulation of the Maxcare Farm Minerals range for 2007 has included adjustment of iodine levels where appropriate to ensure all products comply with recent changes in the permitted levels in animal feeds. Maxcare Pre Lamb is a waterproofed free access mineral available in a 25kg pack size. The Maxcare Farm Minerals range for sheep also includes two other specialist formulations, Ewe Grazer and Ram & Intensive Lamb.
