Fuel-efficient mowing solutions from Vicon

Vicon has extended its plain disc mower range for 2013 to include wider working widths and the introduction of a high capacity triple mower.

Badged as the Extra 300 series, these latest plain mowers offer cutting widths from 2.8m-4.0m, offering high output potential. There are four models in the range; the 2.8m Extra 328, 3.2m Extra 332, 3.6m Extra 336 and the widest plain disc mower is the 4m Extra 340.

All 300-series models share the same headstock and suspension system as Vicon’s well-proven and established Extra 624 and 628 mower conditioners. To maintain compact transport dimensions, all models come with a 125-degree vertical folding transport solution that keeps implement weight close to the tractor, improving on-road stability and manoeuvrability – the latter important when negotiating tighter gateways, for example.

In addition, all models feature a non-stop safety break-away system and centre-mount suspension, to maintain in field performance and productivity.

The arrival of the wider 300-series plain mower designs has also enabled Vicon to introduce a new flagship to its plain mower range - the Extra 390. With a 9m cutting width, this new triple mower combination uses a pair of 3.2m Extra 332s at the rear, in combination with the 3.2m Extra 332F on the tractor’s front linkage. It is a combination that needs just 150hp to operate, reflecting the fuel efficiency and high output potential available from these new models.

All 300-series Extra mowers benefit from a fully-welded cutting bed design that uses Vicon’s proven and extremely successful three-bladed cutting disc, which delivers impressive cutting quality and encourages faster regrowth from grass stubbles.

As part of Vicon’s engineering developments, every mower bed produced is pressure tested and run up to full operating speed to ensure that the machine operates exactly as it is designed to.

In addition, noise testing is carried out to ensure it meets Vicon’s own tough standards for low noise levels. This is achieved with a revised gear cutting process that ensures Vicon disc mowers are now quieter than ever.

During each test, every mower bed is also checked to ensure it does not need an excessive amount of power to operate, confirming low frictional losses. On completion of testing, every mower bed is given its own serial number, allowing any failures to be traced back to component supply and manufacture.

This is all part of parent company Kverneland Group’s commitment to reinvest in production techniques and manufacturing facilities to raise quality standards even higher. Vicon’s Extra 300 Series plain disc mowers come with a two-year warranty package, and are priced from £10,115.
