Gaerwen Abattoir discussions at Anglesey meeting

Plaid Cymru Assembly Member for Anglesey, Rhun Ap Iorwerth, will be addressing Anglesey NFU Cymru members at the next county meeting on Monday, 18 November at Tafarn y Rhos, Llangefni.

Starting at 7.30pm, Rhun Ap Iorwerth AM will lead discussions on a feasibility report on re-opening Gaerwen Abattoir as a cooperative venture. He has already raised the issue with the Economy Minister at Welsh Government and is anxious to gauge NFU Cymru members’ views on the issue. Those present will also get a short report from the NFU Cymru Conference and updates on the milk, beef, sheep and pigs sectors. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the biggest areas of concern members have on rural crime on the island.

County delegates for the coming two years will be confirmed together with nominations for NFU and NFU Cymru officeholder teams.

Anglesey NFU Cymru Chairman, Christine Jones, said, “We are most fortunate to have secured Rhun Ap Iorwerth, our Assembly Member, to be present at this meeting. The Gaerwen Abattoir is vital to sheep farmers on Anglesey and beyond. The effect of its loss for the 2013 lamb marketing season is clear for all to see.

“This meeting is open to all NFU Cymru members and I do hope we will get a good turnout. Please also encourage your friends and neighbours to come along.”
