Georgia-Back Door to Russia.
GEORGIA.
BACK DOOR TO THE EU AND RUSSIA.
The recent events in Georgia, have closed the back door to the European Union and Russia, for South American beef and Chinese poultry.Containers have been consigned to Georgia, the meat then gets into Europe and Russia outside of the quota system.
24 containers were seized over the weekend in Sofia, Bulgaria, initially consigned to Georgia, that contained poultry from China. The containers would normally go to Georgia direct, the preferred route but were re-routed to Sofia after the recent war, where they go to Macedonia or Serbia and into Europe that way though yet another back door.
The customs duty avoided, can be up to 15,000 euros per container.
Its an ill wind that blows no good, this current situation in Georgia, may level the playing field somewhat, for honest meat traders
