German minister urges farming 'renaissance' to combat high prices
Germany's agriculture minister is urging a "renaissance" of farming in Europe and beyond in an effort to produce more food and prevent further price surges, according to an interview released Saturday.
Rapidly rising food prices have caused hunger and deadly violence in several developing countries, and have become an increasing headache even for rich nations.
With the world's population constantly growing, "we must produce more food worldwide to prevent further price jumps," Agriculture Minister Horst Seehofer was quoted as telling the Bild am Sonntag newspaper, which released his comments ahead of publication Sunday.
