Glastir’s independent review panel welcomed

Details announced by the Rural Affairs Minister, Elin Jones, of the new independent review group into the All-Wales Element of the Glastir Scheme have been welcomed by NFU Cymru.

Chaired by former HCC Chairman, Rees Roberts, the independent review panel has been set up to consider the practicalities of on-farm implementation of the options under the All-Wales Element of Glastir and make recommendations for the future. However NFU Cymru has warned that its success will depend on whether or not the Welsh Assembly Government is prepared to listen and apply its recommendations.

Bernard Llewellyn, NFU Cymru’s Rural Affairs Board Chairman and one of those chosen to sit on the group said, "I am delighted that someone of Rees’ calibre will chair this important group and I am sure that all those on the group will be determined and committed to getting a workable scheme. Key to this will be looking at it from a grassroots and practical perspective. I certainly look forward to getting to grips with tackling the serious issues surrounding Glastir and seeing some tangible results - quickly."

A copy of NFU Cymru’s Glastir survey results, published earlier this week, have now been passed to Mr Roberts in the hope that its finding will be used to aid the group’s considerations.
