Harrogate firm wins top industry award
Leading egg producers and packers were praised for their contribution to the continuing success of the UK egg industry at the fourth British Egg Awards on 22 March.
Andrew Parker, Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council (BEIC), highlighted the impressive array of entries received in 2007, saying: "The quality of entries this year has been very impressive and emphasises the continuing improvements of marketing, new product development and innovation taking place within the British egg industry."
Small Enterprise of the Year, sponsored by POULTRY WORLD
Chippindale Foods
First established in the 1930s, Chippindale Foods has remained a family run business that has continued to develop and grow steadily within the market. Recognising the importance of provenance, Chippindale launched its first brand, Yorkshire Free Range Eggs, in 2005 with the support of a new website (www.wheresyoursfrom.com) to allow consumers to see exactly where their eggs are produced. It is this development and continued growth with another brand 'brontëbrowns organic eggs' launched in 2006 that the judges felt should be rewarded.
Andrew Parker said: "This year's winners are shining examples of the work that has been taking place in the egg industry. Everyone involved with eggs, be it retailers, manufacturers, food service operators or egg companies, now recognise the benefits that eggs can bring to their businesses. The industry has welcomed this with open arms and developed products which will make a long-term difference to the way eggs are perceived and sold."
