Hoggets sell for up to £118 a head at Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury Auction Centre has established itself as one of the top venues for hogget sales in the country.

More than 2,200 hoggets went under the hammer on March 17 when a record-breaking trade was reported by auction centre manager Nick Hyne, a director of Halls. Hoggets sold to £110 per head, an average of £95 per head and up to 230p per kilo.

Halls also sold 3,000 hoggets on Tuesday, March 15 and Mr Hyne is expecting entries to increase in the coming weeks.

"There is great demand for hoggets at our Thursday afternoon sales, which are well supported by major wholesalers and abattoirs," said Mr Hyne.
