Honour for BPEX Chairman

British Pig Executive (BPEX) Chairman Stewart Houston has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for services to the pig industry.

The North Yorkshire pig farmer has held a range of positions within the industry over many years. He is currently a commissioner of the Meat and Livestock Commission, Chairman of the National Pig Association and a member of the new Levy Board UK as well as a number of other organisations.

In the late 1990s when the pig industry was going through a particularly difficult time he was a leading member of the pressure group, the British Pig Industry Support Group. Stewart, who farms near Bedale, said: "I am delighted to have received this award but I firmly believe it is not just for me. "I have had the good fortune to be involved with an industry that has worked in extraordinary unison. This is a recognition of the efforts of an industry which has hauled itself back from the brink.

"No-one could have worked with a more resilient bunch of people who hit every obstacle head on. "Throughout, I have had a huge amount of help, support and guidance from my friends, colleagues and family."
