In-feed availability extends access to Mycrotoxins solution
The feed additive Mycosorb, which is widely used as a solution to mycotoxins contamination in feedstuffs, is now being supplied by Alltech as an in-feed inclusion, in addition to the established “Farm Pak” straight feed formulation.
Mycosorb is based on a patented yeast cell wall extract to which the commonly occurring mycotoxins bind in the gut, rendering them harmless to the animal. It is widely proven as an effective solution where mycotoxins are present and has become one of Alltech’s fastest growing products in recent years.
“Awareness of the presence and effects of mycotoxins contamination in commonly used feedstuffs on the farm has grown significantly is the last few years, and we have seen tremendous interest in Mycosorb as a result,” says Alltech UK managing director Jem Clay. “Supplying the product in a form suitable for inclusion in manufactured feeds is a logical step in light of the all-round demand from across different species sectors.”
Mycotoxins are produced under certain circumstances by moulds and fungi that have grown on feeds, and increasing use of high dry matter forages is thought to be one reason for greater incidence. Moulds or heating in forages or other moist feeds are an indication of a possible challenge, but mycotoxins can and often are present even if there are no visible signs. Symptoms are variable and can be quite spasmodic, but unexplained poor performance, yield drop, scouring, and failures to respond to veterinary treatment are amongst the common manifestations.
